The first third of 2018 is over people! It’s May, everything is blooming, the pollen is being disrespectful and we’ve had a few 90 degree days already. I have to admit, once it hits 90 degrees, I’ve over the heat. I’m already craving cooler weather, but alas, I still have to endure June, July and August.
In the mean time, I as grumble at the pending heat and humidity heading my way, I have a few April favorites to share. I only have four items that really stuck out to me in the month of April, but they definitely deserve some recognition.
Australian Golden Lanolin Lip Balm. I’ve been wanting to try a lanolin lip balm for a while. For those who may not know what lanolin is, lanolin is a waxy, oily substance extracted from sheep wool. I admit, that sounds a little gross, but there is a reason why sheep shearers have such soft hands. This lip balm is pure lanolin. It’s extremely thick and emollient, so I only use this at night before bed. This has no scent and the taste is akin to vaseline, however I don’t mind this. Now, I love my Carmex, but this has trumped the Carmex for overnight use. When I wake up my lips are extremely hydrated, plump and smooth. Hear me out, I have not had to exfoliate my lips all month! This is definitely a keeper.
Essie Fiji Nail Polish. Essie Fiji is one of my favorite polishes. I always wear it once the weather begins to warm up. Fiji is a soft, white-based light pink, that is flattering on all skin tones. Whenever I wear this polish, I get several compliments. It looks clean on the nails and even makes me look a little tan. Win! The formula is a little tricky, as it is a white-based polish. Most white-based polishes tend to be on the streaky side and this is no exception. I achieve full, streak-free opacity with three careful coats. The polish also performs well; I got a solid week of wear without any chipping and just a little bit of tip wear.
Fenty Invisimatte Blotting Powder. I’ve actually owned this powder for several months, but I usually only use it to set concealer underneath my eyes. However, this past month I began using it to set my makeup all over the face. I typically use the Mac Mineralize SkinFinish to set my foundation, which is my favorite face powder. However, the MAC powder did not agree with the foundation I’m currently wearing. It caused the foundation to separate oddly throughout the day and it made my make look a little heavy. Invisimatte remedied this problem. It sets my foundation without causing the foundation to separate strangely. It doesn’t crease in fine lines as other powders I’ve used and it is undetectable on the skin. If you’re looking for a new translucent powder and have yet to try this one, I say give it a go!
Silicone Face Brush. I have no idea what the brand of this silicone brush is, so I do apologize for that. I found it in a pack of two at TJ Maxx for 3 dollars. I actually bought them to clean my makeup brushes. I ended up using one for my makeup brushes and the other to wash my face. For 3 bucks, I've got some extra clean makeup brushes and an extra clean face. Just put a dollop of cleanser on the brush, wet it and the bristles help to lift up more makeup from my brushes. I use the second brush to cleanse my face in the morning. I usually just use my hands to wash my face in the A.M., but for whatever reason, my skin was more congested last month. This little silicone brush gets my skin cleaner, while still being gentle. My skin is also brighter, softer and less congested.
This is my quick list of favorites for the month of April. What were some of your favorites this past month?
